The 5 S's

Okay, so I'm not home 24/7, but sometimes it feels like it.  Every once in a while Devin gives me a break, and I go out on my own or hang out with other family, usually my brother Mickey.  Today I had to go to Bed Bath and Beyond to get a wedding present, and Devin gave me some time to do that while he stayed home with Isaac.  I only had an hour, but it was something.

Isaac started crying a lot after I typed that first paragraph, so I had to calm him down.  I thought he was hungry, but that wasn't it.  I don't know what was up, but just yesterday I watched this video called, "The happiest baby on the block" (something I should have watched right after Isaac was born... oh well!), so this guy talks about using the 5 S's to calm your baby.  Thankfully, I was already doing most of it, but there was some new stuff that I learned.  So first of all the 5 S's are: swaddling, side/stomach (as in putting the baby on one), shushing, swinging,  and sucking.  As long as you are doing these, your baby should be the happiest baby on the block!  lol.  But seriously, it works!  At least with mine.  I was already doing the swaddling, swinging, and sucking (pacifier since I can't breastfeed), but I didn't know that putting your baby on his side would calm him down!  Also, I would shush, but I learned that you're supposed to shush as loud as the baby is crying or at least loud enough for him to hear.  And it's good to let his head giggle like jello (part of swinging), because that's how it was when he was inside of the mommy.  Doing all five at the same time is the best way for baby to calm down completely and most likely go to sleep.  So I just did this and little Isaac is fast asleep. :)  Yay!

Tonight will be the first wedding reception that Isaac with be attending.  It's exciting!  But I'm looking forward to going to the ones where he'll actually remember what happened.

  1. Why don't you try kissing his belly, loud, like reaaaly making noise? It works wonders here, and one of the most important s of all: singing! no matter how awful a voice can be they love it!!! I try soft kitty (from BBT) but mostly beatles songs since I am not very familiar with nursery songs... anyway, I hope you try it... hugs!
